MCA Financial Group Welcomes Spencer M. Ware to Lead Turnaround and Restructuring Practice in New York

As MCA Financial Group continues to expand its restructuring and advisory capabilities, the firm is pleased to welcome Spencer M. Ware as Senior Managing Director and head of the Turnaround and Restructuring practice. Spencer will also co-lead MCA’s New York office along with Pat Fodale, strengthening the firm’s presence in the Northeast and its ability to serve companies and stakeholders facing complex financial and operational challenges on the East Coast.

Spencer brings over 20 years of experience developing and implementing business solutions in restructurings, reorganizations, Chapter 11 proceedings, and operational transformations. He has led domestic and international teams and worked with corporations, joint ventures, boards, senior executives, lenders, creditors, and suppliers to navigate periods of financial distress and significant organizational change.

Before joining MCA, Spencer was most recently a Senior Managing Director and Partner with CR3 Partners. He previously held leadership and advisory positions at firms including AlixPartners and Zolfo Cooper. His experience spans retail, consumer products, pharmaceuticals, media, real estate, transportation, logistics, telecommunications, and professional services.

Spencer’s experience includes serving as Chief Restructuring Officer of Coach USA, Eastern Mountain Sports, Bob’s Stores, and Retail Ecommerce Ventures. He also served as Chief Restructuring Officer and Chief Executive Officer of BH Cosmetics and as an officer of JCPenney during its Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Spencer was awarded American Bankruptcy Institute’s America’s “M&A Transaction of the Year” for leading Coach USA through its restructuring. His work as CRO for Eastern Mountain Sports earned him recognition from Turnaround Atlas, M&A Advisor, and the Turnaround Management Association’s Mid-Sized Transaction of the Year Award. Spencer was named the 2022 Turnaround Consultant of the Year by M&A Advisor and to the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 40 Under 40 list. He has also received leadership recognition from the New York Institute of Credit and M&A Advisor.

Spencer is a graduate of Haverford College, where he earned a degree in Economics and was a member of the school’s lacrosse team. He holds the Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor and Certified Turnaround Professional credentials.
