About Mateo

Mateo is a Managing Director at MCA Financial Group, bringing more than a decade of experience in restructuring, distressed M&A, and financial advisory across diverse industries and global markets. He advises clients on complex transactions and operational turnarounds, with a focus on maximizing value for stakeholders in challenging environments.

Before joining MCA, he led engagements through his firm, MAPR Advisory, where he partnered with Gibbins Advisors on restructuring and M&A mandates. His work included managing the carve-out and sale of a Chapter 11 Guam-based conglomerate, structuring auction processes for healthcare organizations, and implementing operational efficiencies to position businesses for sale.

Previously, he served as a Director in KPMG’s Deal Advisory practice, where he developed revenue and market models, integration strategies, and value creation plans for transactions spanning the insurance, healthcare, technology, and consumer products sectors. Earlier, as a Director in FTI Consulting’s Corporate Finance and Restructuring practice, he managed debt restructurings, distressed acquisitions, and multi-country performance improvement projects for private equity–backed companies and multinational corporations.

His earlier career includes roles at Berkeley Research Group, AlixPartners, MSCI, and Ernst & Young, where he developed expertise in operational transformation, risk analytics, and transfer pricing for global clients. He has worked extensively across North and South America, Europe, and Asia, bringing a cross-border perspective to every engagement.

Mateo holds a Master of Arts in Economics from Vanderbilt University, where he received a full scholarship to the Graduate Program in Economic Development, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) in Mexico City. He also studied at the University of Chicago on a joint full scholarship. He is fluent in Spanish, French, and Portuguese, and is pursuing the Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Adviser (CIRA) designation.

Based in Miami, Mateo enjoys traveling, weight-lifting, hiking, and spending time between his hometowns of Monterrey, Mexico, and Dallas, Texas, and (adopted) Medellin, Colombia.
